UK's Lidington: UK will hold European Parliament elections on May 23

UK Cabinet Office minister David Lidington was out on the wires in the last hour confirming that the UK will hold European Parliament elections on May 23. 

We had hoped to avoid holding those elections and will now be doubling our efforts to avoid MEPS having to take their seats, he added further.

The comments reaffirmed that there hasn’t been any major breakthrough in the cross-party Brexit talks and thus, did little to provide any immediate respite to the British Pound.
