BoE: Deputy Governor Ben Broadbent in focus - TDS

The BoE’s Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy Ben Broadbent gives a speech at noon BST and Broadbent’s position on interest rates could be a key determinant for any possible MPC move later this year (his last speech on the topic was in March), according to the research team at TDS.

“While we think an August hike is out of the question, if Broadbent joins Chief Economist Andy Haldane in pushing for a rate hike sooner rather than later, it could tip the balance of the committee just enough to result in majority vote against Governor Carney later this year. That said, Broadbent has tended to stay relatively close to the Governor’s view on monetary policy, and given the tone of recent data, he’s likely to want to keep his options open. Haldane also participates on a panel at 11am (no text to be released).”
