German 2015 economic growth likely to be above Dec forecast – Weidmann

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The BundesBank’s Jens Weidmann said today that the German economy should grow "somewhat" beyond its normal capacity utilization level this year, and perhaps even more strongly in 2016.

"Complacency in economic policy matters has no place in Germany," Weidmann said in a statement accompanying the national central bank's 2014 results. He further added, "The unfavourable demographic outlook will weigh heavily on the German economy in the medium term.”

Turning to Greece, Weidmann said the onus squarely on governments to decide whether they wanted to cover Greece's funding needs, saying this was "less than ever" a task for the euro zone's central banks.

On ECB’s QE, the policy maker said the risk of deflation has reduced further due to the QE program, while stating that the companies are benefitting from the weaker Euro.
